At the CES 2020 Consumer Electronics Show, OnePlus’ first concept was officially released. With a hidden rear camera. OnePlus concept looks gorgeous, covered in papaya leather used in McLaren supercars.
OnePlus Concept One introduces electro-chromic technology for the first time on mobile phones. This technology is commonly applied to aircraft and sports car glasses. This technology can transform glasses into colour and transparency under electric field operation. When used in mobile phones, the “latent rear camera” came into being.
The seemingly isolated glass panel is actually made up of five very fine layers with an important electrochromic material in the middle. All in all, OnePlus says they are working with “the thinnest electrochromic glass panel in the industry.” More importantly, the transition time from opaque to transparent is fast, about 0.7 seconds.
In addition, it seems that this electrochromic glass has some practical advantages, such as being able to act as a neutral density filter for cameras. Long story short, it can reduce the amount of light entering the camera by about three to three stops, so you can shoot wide-angle lenses in Pro mode without worrying overexposure. They are also very helpful in shooting video in bright conditions.
