If games are the main task of the PC. A week ago, AMD introduced the monstrous 64-core Ryzen Threadripper 3990X processor. Unprecedented in this segment of the CPU costs almost $ 4,000.
Of course, such a processor, even without taking into account the high price, is not needed by everyone. An AMD representative explained that the Threadripper 3990X is not at all positioned as a universal CPU. This solution is for creative professionals involved in video processing and other tasks that can load a huge number of cores.
But for games, AMD advises you to buy something simpler: Ryzen 9 3900X or Ryzen 9 3950X. In this case, we mean those users for whom games are the main scenario for using a PC.
The 64-core AMD Threadrapper 3990X has won the battle for CES chips, and we have yet to learn more about it as we look forward to its February 7 release date. For more information, Gordon Moshe Young (PC World) spoke to AMD David McAfee.
AMD also abandoned the memory topology of previous generations, which is good. Thread Trapper In the second generation, there were four direct memory channels in the 16 chips or less. However, chips with more than 16 cores had two cores that use direct memory, and two that use remote memory. In the third generation, all chips with up to 64 cores have direct memory channels.
The new Threadkeeper has a 280-watt TDP envelope. Its clock frequency gains 4.3 GHz and is based on 2.9 GHz.
Although any PC activist can be killed in large numbers, AMD means a specific user. According to McAfee, this product is intended for creative professionals who need everything from a large number of covers to rendering, video editing and other tasks.
“Personally, I wouldn’t buy the 3990X if I wanted to play, but it would also provide a great gaming experience,” said McPhee. McAfee recommends that most players buy 12-core or 16-core 3Rs. Jane Racine instead.
If there is any consolation for people with numbers, McAfee promises that someday consumers will enjoy requests that truly benefit the company’s chips with a large number of covers.
“We are constantly working with a number of independent software vendors to launch new opportunities so that their applications can be accurately scaled from 32 to 64.” He noted that memory allocation and thread pools have a major impact on how an application is scaled, for example, 32 to 64 cores.
