Huawei joins OIN, the world’s largest patent protection community: free cross-licensing permission for Linux

Recently, OIN and Huawei, the world’s largest patent protection community, jointly announced that Huawei has become a licensee and member of the OIN community.

According to the OIN community, Huawei is the world’s leading provider of infrastructure. And intelligent equipment for information and communication technologies (ICT). Communications promoters support open-source software.

OIN’s CEO Keith Bergelt said: “As innovative technologies emerge, the ICT industry is undergoing unprecedented changes. With Linux-based platforms, including Linux-based networking projects. Such as OPNFV and ONAP, service providers and enterprises Deliver cloud-based and software-defined networking capabilities with unprecedented speed, bringing innovation to an unprecedented level.

Keith Bergelt said that Huawei is a world leader in ICT infrastructure. Huawei has a large number of intellectual property rights. We value Huawei’s joining OIN and support for patent protection of the underlying Linux technology and related open-source software.

The Director of Huawei’s Intellectual Property Department Ding Jianxin, said: “Huawei is committed to providing high-quality ICTs and smart devices. Linux and OSS are key to developing our technology and integrating with global carriers and enterprises. By joining OIN, we demonstrate our unwavering commitment to innovation. We will always support the patent protection of Linux and other global key open source projects. ”

It is understood that the OIN community provides cross-licensing of Linux system patents in free form. It thus enforces patent protection for basic Linux technologies and related open source technologies. The OIN license is free for all members who agree not to use their patent rights on the Linux system.

OIN is the largest patent protection community in history. OIN supporting a free development environment for Linux, a key element of open source software (OSS). The protection of patent rights for core technologies is the cultural norm in OSS. Therefore, only by joining the OIN community can we find out if the behavior in the community is honest.

OIN  has more than 3200 members and more than 1300 global patents and applications. The OIN Patent License and the Member Cross-Patent License are free for all members of the OIN community.

Earlier, some companies, such as Alibaba, Tencent, China UnionPay, Ant Financial, JD.com, Haier and Meituan Dianping, joined the OIN community.
