The new Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra features a host of innovations that enhance the original phablet. This includes the S-Pen “Real Feel” and optimizations for streaming Microsoft games via Xbox Game Pass. We have information and pictures in advance.
Samsung’s marketing for the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra focuses on five themes. The new S Pen, with response times delayed to nine milliseconds, is designed to make writing as realistic as possible. And thus brings it closer to writing on paper like never before. Samsung is also working more closely with Microsoft and wants to offer OneNote automatic syncing in addition to the familiar gesture commands.
In addition, an advanced 108-megapixel camera with laser autofocus and 5x optical zoom is installed. In addition, there is a 120-hertz compatible display that adjusts automatically based on whether you are playing or working. In addition, Samsung explicitly advertises productive use with Wireless-DeX. Which is a desktop environment for wireless output to an external display.
The fifth highlight on the list of highlights concerns gaming: The Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra 5G is the first smartphone to feature Microsoft’s collaboration with optimizations for gaming through online streaming via Project xCloud. With Xbox Game Pass, over 90 games should be available on your smartphone via the cloud. It is making the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra a “portable gaming console”.
The Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra has a full 6.9-inch dynamic OLED display that is rounded at the sides and is therefore also referred to as an edge display. The panel offers 3200×1440 pixels and, depending on requirements, provides refresh rates up to 120Hz thanks to dynamic control. The screen is 19.3: 9 and offers 508 PPI. The highlight is that the Note 20 Ultra should be the first smartphone to feature the new Corning Gorilla Glass 7.
Under the hood is at least the European Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra 5G Samsung Exynos 990 Octacore SoC, which also powers the Galaxy S20. The chip reaches 2.7 gigahertz and is installed here along with 12 gigabytes of RAM. The internal UFS 3.1 flash memory is 256 or 512 gigabytes, depending on the model, and can be expanded with a microSD card.
Samsung has provided the Note 20 Ultra with a redesigned 108-megapixel sensor that has a maximum aperture of f / 1.8 and works with 0.8-micron sensor pixels. Among other things, the sensor has dual-pixel autofocus, but Samsung has also built a laser autofocus system into its new flagship smartphone for particularly fast focusing.
There are also two more 12MP sensors on the back of the phone, one of which is equipped with a periscope lens. This translates into a 5x real magnification: the sensor operates with 1.0 micron pixels and an f / 3.0 aperture. The second 12-megapixel sensor forms an ultra-wide-angle camera and has an f / 2.2 aperture and 1.4-micron sensor pixels.
Taken together, the three camera sensors on the rear should provide 50x “space zoom” – which is why Samsung is bidding farewell to the 100x space zoom advertised for the S20 Ultra, which is unlikely to prove itself in practice. On the front of the new Galaxy Note 20 Ultra, there is a central front-facing camera that works with 10 megapixels and also has dual-pixel autofocus. It has an f / 2.2 aperture and 1.22-micron sensor pixels. Samsung is touting 8K video recording, at least for the main camera.
Additional features include USB-C 3.2, NFC, Bluetooth 5.x, WiFi 6, and dual GPS support. AKG-optimized stereo speakers are also on board. Samsung lists the overall height of the Note 20 Ultra 5G at 8.1 millimeters and promises that the device is IP68 certified and thus withstands 30 minutes in water depths up to 1.5 meters.
The battery can be charged up to 50 percent of its total 4500 mAh capacity within 30 minutes using the quick charge function. Wireless charging is supported, of course. It should also be noted that Samsung has installed two SIM card slots and additionally supports eSIM. Android 10 with the current Samsung One UI 2.x is still used as the operating system.
Samsung will officially launch the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra 5G on August 5. If you want to buy the device, you have to accept the high price of over 1000 €, although we do not have specific pricing information.
