WhatsApp: New option to permanently (group) chats

The Messenger WhatsApp is extremely popular, but it is not perfect in some respects. It is still not possible to permanently block notifications for the receipt of messages from a specific contact or group. Now, this could change.

As the WhatsApp specialist WABetaInfo announced, the team behind the Facebook-based messaging service is working on permanently switching off notifications for the receipt of new messages from a contact or from a group chat. So far, the deactivation of the notifications has always been limited in time, but this will obviously be changed soon.

New ‘always’ option

WABetaInfo published a screenshot showing the usual division of the mute menu into three levels. But instead of the “1-year” option that was previously used, the new alternative “always” instead of the “8 hours” and “1-week” options “is offered. This would finally make it possible to permanently deactivate notifications from certain contacts and groups.

Some users long for such a possibility because they are part of a large number of groups, in which a very high number of new messages may appear. Although this could be “turned off” for most of the time beforehand using the 1-year option, only now does a permanent solution for the news storm appear to be emerging.

So if you have preferred to leave highly active groups so far rather than wipe away notifications, you can hope to get better soon, at least on Android. As usual, it is still completely unclear when and whether WhatsApp will really make a new function widely available. The option is also not yet available in the latest beta. Just a few days ago, there were indications that WhatsApp would soon enable the use of multiple devices with the same account.
