Apple Watch get ECG Feature Approval in Japan

The approval was confirmed by the Japan Medical Equipment Development Association (JAAME) on September 4 (Friday) and was subsequently reported by the technology blog iPhone Mania today. The upcoming update to Apple’s watchOS may open up functionality for existing “Apple Watch” users.

After approval, Ochanomizu Cardiology Department has begun to promote its “Apple Watch” outpatient program, which will help registered patients use equipment to help them record suspicious arrhythmia episodes and submit them for further detailed examination.

Apple’s ECG application and irregular heart rhythm notifications on Apple Watch Series 4 and Apple Watch Series 5 have been recognized and certified by Japanese medical institutions, indicating that both functions should be launched in Japan soon.

‌ Series 4 and Apple watch series 5 users can generate ECG waveforms within 30 seconds by placing their fingers on the Digital Crown. The idea is that if the result is abnormal, you can bring this information to the doctor and use it as a basis to find out if you have a bigger problem at hand. Before selling the “Apple Watch” ECG function in different countries Apple usually must first obtain approval from the government medical Agency.
