Xbox Series X vs. PS5: Size comparison shows on new pictures
If you buy the next-generation Xbox Series X or PlayStation 5 console, You have to create a space to install your console. Now, the images that are shown below are dedicated to a size comparison. An impressive size comparison now shows how big the new next-gen game console really is.
A few days ago Sony announced the dimensions and weight of the new PlayStation 5. The digital edition weighs 3.9 kilograms and measures 390 x 92 x 260 mm without the base. The version with the drive is a little heavier and larger at 4.5 kg and 390 x 104 x 260 mm.
Before the Christmas business, these two gaming console Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 will become the main participants in the “Console Battle”. These two consoles are of vital importance to both manufacturers. It is clear that this could pose problems for many gamers. Because TV furniture often only offers limited space. Where the still current PlayStation 4 fits in without any problems, the successor needs significantly more space. The fact that this will deter PlayStation fans from buying the new generation of consoles should only apply in exceptional cases.
Competitor Microsoft has kept its Xbox Series X much more compact. The console measures 151 x 151 x 301 mm in width, depth, and height and weighs just under 4.5 kg. So the Xbox Series X is less low and high. But it is a bit wider than the PS5 – at least without a stand. With a stand, the two devices hardly take up anything in terms of width.
Thus, the Xbox Series X requires significantly less space in or on the cabinet. So Microsoft has managed to keep its console more compact. Nevertheless, it offers more computing power, as a comparison of the performance data shows. While the new PlayStation 5 has 10.28 TFLOPs, the Xbox Series X has 12 TFLOPs. Nevertheless, the new PlayStation 5 should sell significantly better, as analysts predict.
The PlayStation 5 towers over the next-gen and current-gen consoles
The Japanese designer Kei Sawada shows new renderings on Twitter. These effects not only juxtapose the Xbox Series X and PS5 but also make the cheaper Xbox Series S and current game consoles (such as PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch) play a role. Compared to the PlayStation 5, the extended Microsoft console looks almost compact, but the weight of both systems is about 4.5 kg. However, the height and depth between them is 9 to 11 cm. Although the 30-inch TV in the designer’s photo can almost be raised high by the PS5 without feet, the difference between the 55-inch and 65-inch models popular in the country is relatively large.

One thing is certain: the PlayStation 5 with its housing takes up significantly more space in the TV cabinet than the Xbox Series X. The large housing is required for adequate cooling and ventilation of the components. The bottom line is that the “more compact” Series X with 12.15 TFLOPS should offer more power than the PS5 with 10.28 TFLOPS. Sony benefits from a larger number of regular customers who already own a PS4 and who for many more attractive exclusive titles. Microsoft, on the other hand, convinces in addition to the hardware with the game flat rate Xbox Game Pass, which even contains AAA in-house productions such as Halo Infinite and current and upcoming titles in the Forza and Gears series.
Pre-orders, availability, and prices
The Xbox Series X will be available for pre-order from September 22nd. The release date is November 10th. Sony began pre-selling the PlayStation 5 a few days ago, which should be available from November 19th. Both next-gen consoles cost 499.99 euros. The drive-free PS5 Digital Edition, however, is offered for 399.99 euros and Microsoft’s entry-level system Xbox Series S for 299.99 euros.
