Samsung cancels IFA 2020: own online event in September
The Korean electronics giant Samsung is usually one of the largest exhibitors at the IFA in Berlin. Because the company has rented an entire hall for years to present its products. In 2020, nothing will come of this.
Meanwhile, Samsung has officially confirmed that this year the company will not participate in IFA 2020. This means that the largest manufacturer of such products will no longer appear at the last major exhibition of electronic products. Given the failure of all relevant major technical events outside of CES in January, this is not surprising.
According to representatives of the group, Samsung will present its latest announcements and news as part of its own “digital event” in early September. Samsung will not participate in the IFA this year. But in the future, it will continue to be a partner in the Berlin exhibition. Thus, a return in 2021 is so far guaranteed.
2020 technology Events canceled in a row – only IFA left
Since the CES in January, the IFA has become the first of the largest technology exhibitions in the western world to be held, at least in abbreviated form. The international radio show was initially canceled due to the spread of the new coronavirus but was later announced as a live broadcast with a modified concept and a very limited number of visitors.
Samsung’s reasons for leaving should be clear: as with the cancellation of Mobile World Congress 2020 in February and now also canceled Computex 2020 in Taiwan in June. The global crown pandemic is the trigger. For Samsung, it hardly makes any economic sense to open its usual giant package. While the number of IFA visitors is reduced to 1,000 people per day.
The current IFA 2020 will be held from September 3 to 5, 2020 at the Berlin exhibition site under the radio tower. Samsung has not made an appointment for its own online event. But I hope you should not choose one of the exhibition days. Then the company is likely to launch its product range for the second half and the Christmas season.
“After all the event failures in recent months, our industry urgently needs this platform to present its innovations. IFA not only offers the best time for this but also efficient opportunities for participation,” said Jens Heithecker, Executive Director of IFA Berlin, for sure. An event on-site was not wanted this year either. Because it was the “human emotional connection” that events like IFA Berlin would make.
Large keynote stage, everything in the Livestream
The central focus of IFA 2020 will be the keynote stage on which manufacturers can present their products. The opening address will be delivered on September 3, 2020, by Cristiano Amon, President of Qualcomm. Who wants to report on “5G, AI and other cutting-edge technologies”. The further program will be presented at a later date. But the events should definitely be accompanied by “streaming and chat offers”.
