Microsoft fixes printer issues and apps crashes in Windows 10

This month, Microsoft released the second cumulative update for older versions of Windows 10 from 1909 to 1803. Updates improve the quality and fix the first errors that appeared after the June day of corrections.

Microsoft reports that the updates are “out of order”, but are not related to security. Instead, it fixes two annoying issues that many Windows 10 users have reported after a recent day of fixes. This includes the problem that print jobs did not print and connected applications hung up. Therefore, it is possible that further updates for Windows 10 will appear in the next few days.

In any case, Microsoft announces that a printer patch will also be released for other vulnerable versions in the coming days. This should also include the new version of 2004, known as the Windows update on May 10, 2020. Released updates are marked as optional and are recommended to users who are affected by a printing problem. According to the release notes in the Knowledge Base, there is only one change for printers.

The bug causes problems with USB printers

After Microsoft released many cumulative updates for Windows 10 for Patch Day in June, a new support post can now be found on Redmond. Here, Microsoft warns about an error that affects USB printers and has not yet been fixed.

Windows 10 versions 1903, 1909, and 2004, as well as the recently released May 2020 update, are susceptible to this error. The problem occurs as soon as the user connects a USB printer or USB scanner to the computer, turns off the computer, and then disconnects the cable from the PC. If the computer starts up again and then the equipment reconnects, the printer or scanner is no longer displayed among the connected devices. This means that all printer or scanner features are no longer available.

Microsoft has released new cumulative updates for Windows 10 versions of 1903, or Windows 10 May Update, and 1909, also the November update, for this month. New version numbers: 18362,904 and 18363,904.

All update information is available in the Knowledge Base at KB4567512. There is also a bug fix for versions 1809 and 1803 (KB4567513 for version 1809 and KB4567514 for version 1803). New cumulative updates are available now. They replace the updates of the previous day of the patch and solve only problems associated with print jobs. Therefore, the list of changes this time will be short.

Update content

The non-security updates include quality improvements. The main changes include:

  • Addresses an issue that could prevent certain printers from printing. The printing process could generate an error or close unexpectedly when trying to print, and the printer will not be printed. Applications may also experience problems when trying to print, e.g. For example, an error message, or the application closes unexpectedly. This problem could also affect software-based printers, for example when printing to PDF.

If you install one of the new updates, you must have loaded a current Servicing Stack Update beforehand.
