Motorola has been steadily expanding its Odin line. It has 8MP Spotlight telephoto lenses enabled through OIS. But this is far from the only charm of Zoom. This stands out clearly from the rest of the “single” family in terms of common sources.

One Zoom is powerful enough to offer Motorola in 2019. Although it may sound like criticism on the surface, it really is not – we just hope to get the phone in the right context.

In line with expectations and with a better understanding of where One Zoom fits into Motorola’s current lineup, we might be interested in considering. Of course, a quick retail package tour starts over the phone.

Unboxing the Motorola one Zoom

In a typical Motorola fashion, there is nothing more than packaging. It is just a sturdy two-component cardboard box with excellent internal support and layout and recognizable blue colour.

The original One Zoom accessory kit is strikingly rich. You get a nice, thick, rubber transparent case in a box. There are also a pair of headphones. The complete charger is one of the Motorola turbo-power units. He is able to provide the full power of 15 watts that the phone can accept, even if his courage is based on Quick Charge 2.0. You can also use another Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0 charger (or even higher) to get One Zoom at full speed. As for chargers, they are usually the most common.

It also means that you don’t need anything but a standard Type-A USB cable for Type C for One Zoom. The one that comes with Motorola is pretty good and sturdy. There are no complaints at all.

Positioning

Motorola’s line is an attempt to give market devices a different focus, highlighting these or these opportunities. For example, the One-action is the first smartphone to shoot various sporting events on camera, replacing GoPro.

From the name One Zoom it follows that this device is intended for those who focus on the camera, that is, the device provides a certain level of photography. But in a limited budget, Motorola could not create such a smartphone from scratch, someone was definitely a donor for it. Looking at the lineup, we will find this donor without difficulty, this is Moto Z4, a kind of flagship of the company. Technical characteristics of the models are similar to disgrace, only the main camera unit is different.

Motorola’s fancy positioning was a joy as the Z4 came out already, but it costs more than the improved version of the One Zoom. On the Z4 side – Support only for Moto Mids, this is the only difference between devices that might be considered important. Otherwise, they are twin brothers, and the emphasis in One Zoom is on the camera. But, in my opinion, this model is interesting in design, as it offers interesting glass reading, which is somewhat reminiscent of the iPhone’s eleventh generation. Let’s look at this device carefully.

Design, dimensions, controls

The device is available in three colours, each of them is attractive in its own way, look at these colours.

I love the fact that the Moto logo on the back is made highlighted. When shooting, making a call, or any event, it gradually flares up. This is the emotional chip that distinguishes the device from many similar models.

And if the front panel of this Motorola is absolutely no different from most modern devices, then the back panel is perceived quite differently – it enlivens the phone. It uses Corning Gorilla Glass 3, and this is frosted satin glass.

Glass plays in the light, and at different angles, the device looks different, it shimmers. The dull glass plays into his hand.

Notice how you beat the camera block, it avoids the matter on the glass substrate and results in a metal. This attention to detail, which is very important in things, and Motorola’s designers are tasteful.

The configuration of the standard elements is a bit unusual, the device has three microphones and a noise-cancelling system. But the speaker is placed at the upper end, a slot for the right SIM card and a memory card. But at the bottom is a USB Type C connector as well as a 3.5mm connector. Pairing volume control keys are on/off the right side.

The quality of the building is only at the highest level, there is no fault. Protection against water is minimal, it is a watercolour of certain P2i solution components, it will protect the device from water, but still can damage it, so you should not try your luck.

The phone measures 158 x 75 x 8.8 mm and weighs 190 grams. She lies in her hands, well dressed in clothes.

For those who are accustomed to looking at the LED indicator to know about the missed events, I would say this is not enough here. It replaces the active display, which activates when you touch the phone. There are no infrared sensors, just like the previous models, which reacted to the indicator at the top of the screen. One of the benefits of such a screen is that you can quickly switch to the application, see the notification on the screen and respond to it immediately. To some extent, this is a permanent replacement. Someone likes this implementation, one thinks it’s better when permanent information is displayed on the screen.

Display

The technical specifications of the screen are as follows: 6.4 inches, 1080 × 2340 pixels (19.5: 9), OLED, 403 PPI, automatic brightness control, Panda Glass (this is the first device with such glass, I did not find any features). I like the display in Moto One, as it offers a good quality picture, adaptive adjustment works well. But Motorola has an inherent problem, which is observed from model to model: when taking photos or video, the screen becomes quite dull.

Indoors, the display is excellent, the brightness is marginal, it’s excessive. But this is a mid-range matrix with no safety margin. On the other hand, it is not such a flagship, therefore, any claim is excessive, and they cannot be presented.

Battery Life

Built-in Li-Pool battery features are as follows: 4000mAh, full charger time is about 1 hour 35 minutes. The phone has TurboCharger technology (Quick Charge from Qualcomm or Samsung’s Fast Adaptive Charge). Sorry, but there is no wireless charger. On average, the device works about 4-4.5 hours a day, or about two days, with a more economical view.

Memory, RAM, performance

The phone has 4 GB of RAM, 128 GB of internal memory (there are no other options), but there is also support for microSD memory cards up to 512 GB.

The chipset inside the phone is Qualcomm Snapdragon 675 (technology 11nm), two Gateway 460 Gold Core whose frequency is 2.0 GHz, 6 Crew 460 Silver Core with frequency 1.7 GHz, Adreno 612. The performance solution is at a good level, see the results of the simulated test below.

I had no problems in the interface, third-party programs, everything is smooth and good.

USB, Bluetooth, communication features

BT version 5.0, all profiles are supported. Depending on the model number, different frequencies for LTE are supported, but there is aggregation, and the device is omnivorous, this is a big plus, it will work efficiently in all countries of the world.

For Wi-Fi there is support for 802.11a / b / g / n / ac, dual-band, dual-band 2×2 (MIMO). The phone has NFC, for USB it supports OTG.

Camera

The front camera, as well as the main one, is built on a Quad-Bayer matrix, so you can safely divide the resolution of 25 megapixels into four. The quality of the picture does not make much impression, see for yourself.

Software Features

Motorola doesn’t indulge in add-ons over Android, it’s a practically clean interface, without overloading third-party programs or interface finds.

In the case of multimedia, I liked this unit, it plays well and comparing it primarily with Chinese classmates, I prefer it, the sound is clearer and has been improved.

The Moto application shows you how to activate a camera with a brush, how to record voice tags to activate a phone, and even introduce you to night mode.

Individual applications have been redesigned, for example, a gallery or creating multimedia cuts from videos and photos that you automatically receive.

There are also no complaints about the radio; it works as it should.

The device in terms of software and additional features is somewhat empty, but, probably, someone asceticism, on the contrary, will like it.

Finding

The quality of communication is good. At this level, I like that there is a noise reduction system with many microphones. Ringer’s volume and Vibra’s quality are also excellent.

What is the Motorola One Zoom for? Probably for those who want an alternative to the device from Samsung, Huawei, Honor, Apple. This is an original design model, very different from the equipment that is on the market. And here it is important to understand that it is a crime to buy such goods and to hide it in any case. So, if you know the sin of letting go of your device, then this device is definitely not for you.

Focusing on design, Motorola won, this is a rare example of a device that differs from the many similar smartphones on the market, and this is already expensive. But also this is a model of the middle segment, in the USA it costs from 450 dollars (in Europe from 429 euros). In Russia, the device cannot be officially purchased; it just is not supplied. The price does not look the lowest, but you can give it away for this device. You should not rely on the fact that the cameras will be at the level of flagships, but never thought of. This is a versatile smartphone with a good screen, built-in fingerprint sensor and everything you might need. Reasonable purchase.
